A direct 10-hour flight from Cape Town to Australia might be on the cards, according to media reports — though it’s not yet been revealed which Aussie city is under consideration.
Cape Town may soon be connected with one of “Australia’s busy and bustling metros,” according to Cape Town Air Access project manager Paul van den Brink, in an interview with Reuters.
He says the group and Cape Town International Airport are hoping to make the most of the influx of tourism from CPT’s new direct flights to New York, and alleviate the inconvenience of long layovers at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo airport.
There are also plans to connect the Mother City with its first South American destination, adds Van der Brink — Sao Paulo, Brazil.
At present, the fastest route to Australia from Cape Town is to travel to Johannesburg and land in Perth, which takes at least 16 hours.
